Kansas!

I decided Oklahoma s*ks. I just washed my bike and stopped to see a vintage motorcycle museum in Miami. Well I saw the road construction but didn't think about the street sweeper putting up a massive cloud of dust. I took that as a sign and bugged out. Glad to be in Baxter Springs, KS

Long day on 66

Despite the speeding ticket ( I got confirmation I was in a bonifide "Speedtrap) I had a good day and was on old 66 most of the day. I 44 is a toll road so they had to keep 66 open I guess. It's slower going but much better on the physic. Found this cool store near Vinita , OK and added my story to the side wall. Could be home in 2 days. I covered 328 miles in 13 hrs. All the pics can be seen at Photobucket (look up rlohre)

A couple pics...

Abandoned farm and Tucumcari banner vnot sure who paid for the banner it what it meant since the town was pretty much a wasteland.

Getting closer...

Made 383 miles yesterday although some of that was visiting Cibola. I was looking forward to Tucumcari since its in a Little Feat song I like "Willin", well it looked Luke it was quite the town back in the day. Sadly, about all the motels and stores are boarded up. I'm talking several miles of them.  The poor downtown was a boarded up wasteland too. It was pretty sad. Anyways I puttered on to Amarillo, TX. Route 66 is totally gone except the stretches in the little towns. I'll check out the stretch here in Amarillo this morning and then am planning on visiting Palo Duro Canyon which is supposed to be quite the sight. 2nd largest Canyon in the USA. Then on to Oklahoma City. Man is it a long way from the Pacific to Cincy...

A so so day...

Finally landed at Denny''s for dinner here at 1602 Coors Blvd NW  Albuquerque, NM 87105. The petrified forest was pretty neat. Don't think I covered much ground today. Route 66 is all fractured so it's a lot of stop and go to stop in every town off 40. Plus it's not the same as riding the country side on a hwy and coming into town. Looked like there are some mnts around Albuquerque so I might plan a ride through some of that. Had rain a few times today...I just washed the bike this morning! My glasses needed a repair as the lens fell out...got that handled. My sunglasses broke so i'll be looking for replacement. Not easy to find except at Quaker Steak bike night...lol.

Get your kicks!

Standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona...such a fine sight to see....lol. Got a nice long stretch of riding on route 66 out of kingman. The weather improved considerably once I cleared the Mohavi desert. Arizona is pretty cool. Tons of trains along this route. They run right through the center of all these towns. Traveled 439 miles yesterday. Only about 1,600 to go. May be home by Friday. I think i'll be antsy sitting at home once I get back. Gonna check it the petrified forest national park today I think.

Last day on the foggy cold coast

Laid over in Thousand Oaks, CA 91320 . Next stop is Malibu and then down the coast to Santa Monica and Venice Beach. Gonna look for Will Rodgers State. Beach were I slept in my car for 10th days back in 76. Then it's route 66 which starts at the Santa Monica Pier and runs up Santa Monica Blvd. I hear it's 100 plus out where I'm headed Likely see that for a couple days. Gotta be better than the cold and fog. Santa Barbara was the highlight yesterday. Cool town. Saw the Old Mission and met a nutty guy with an incredible decorated van. He was smart though and collects tips from the gawkers (like me). Nice guy.

South of Big Sur

Back on the coastal hwy after an incredible day yesterday riding the Big Sur stretch. Magnificent area of twists and turns and awesome vistas. Stayed the night at The Ragged Edge. OMG!  Everyone asks what my destination is...well, that would be it. Plunged and got an ocean view room which was beyond description. Hundreds of feet up on a cliff. I stopped about 5:30 and stayed until checkout time at 11 ..lol.Now I'm back on the road in Morro Bay, CA. Hope to reach Venice Beach later today.

Cartel Mission.

Pretty cool! At this rate i'll never get down the coast.

Where's Clint?

I figured I'd be given the key to the city in Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA 93921. But noooo.... Seems white and silver are the car colors of choice this year.
